PRODUCT INTRODUCTION

Enam 10 Tablet belongs to a group of medicines known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It is widely used to treat high blood pressure and heart failure and may be prescribed after a heart attack. It also lowers the chances of having a heart attack or stroke.

Enam 10 Tablet can be prescribed either alone or in combination with other medicines. It should be taken on an empty stomach. This medicine should be taken at the same time each day to get the most benefit. It is important to continue taking it regularly even if you feel well or even if your blood pressure is controlled. Most people with high blood pressure do not feel ill, but if you stop taking this medicine, your condition could get worse. This is a widely used medicine and is considered safe for long-term use.

Making some changes in your lifestyle will also help lower your blood pressure. These may include regular exercise, losing weight, smoking cessation, reducing alcohol intake, and reducing the amount of salt in your diet as advised by your doctor. The most common side effects of this medicine include decreased blood pressure, cough, increased potassium level in blood, fatigue, weakness, and dizziness. Most of these are temporary and resolve with time. Talk to your doctor if any of the side effects bother you or do not go away.

Before taking this medicine, let your doctor know if you have any kidney or liver problems. Pregnant or breastfeeding mothers should also consult their doctor before taking it. Your doctor may check your kidney function, blood pressure, and potassium levels in your blood at regular intervals while you are taking this medicine.

BENEFITS OF ENAM TABLET

In Treatment of Hypertension (high blood pressure)

Enam 10 Tablet belongs to a group of medicines called ACE inhibitors. It reduces stress on the heart and relaxes the blood vessels. This widens the blood vessels and makes it easier for the heart to pump blood around your body, thereby lowering your blood pressure. Controlled blood pressure reduces the risk of having a heart attack, stroke, or kidney problems. The medicine must be taken regularly, as prescribed, to be effective. You do not usually feel immediate benefit from taking this medicine, however, it helps you maintain your blood pressure in the long term.

In Treatment of Prevention of heart attack and stroke

Enam 10 Tablet lowers your blood pressure. As a result, it reduces the chance of damage to the small blood vessels in your heart and kidneys. This reduces the risk of getting a heart attack and kidney problems. It also helps in slowing down the rate at which they get worse if you already have problems. This medicine must be taken regularly to be effective.

In Treatment of Heart failure

Enam 10 Tablet makes it easier for your heart to pump blood around your body so the heart has to do less work. This can improve your heart function and reduce the symptoms of heart failure. It will help improve your quality of life and enable you to go about your daily activities more efficiently. The medicine must be taken regularly and as long as the doctor has prescribed it to be effective.

Q. What is Enam 10 Tablet? What is it used for?

Enam 10 Tablet belongs to a group of medicines known as angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors. It relaxes and widens the blood vessels, making it easier for the blood to pass through the vessels. As a result of this, the heart does not have to work more to push the blood. Since the workload on the heart is reduced, it helps to lower the blood pressure and thus reduces the risk of heart attack and stroke. It is also used for the treatment and prevention of congestive heart failure.

Q. Does Enam 10 Tablet cause excessive urination? Can it cause kidney damage?

No, Enam 10 Tablet does not cause excessive urination (loss of water through urine). The use of Enam 10 Tablet may not affect normally functioning kidneys. However, damage to the kidneys may occur when Enam 10 Tablet is given with a diuretic (water pill, a medicine that increases the urine output). In such a case, either the diuretic should be discontinued or its dose should be reduced. If you have severe heart failure or your kidneys are already affected then there is a risk of kidney failure. However, timely and appropriate treatment can reverse the damage caused to kidneys.

Q. Can use of Enam 10 Tablet affect my liver?

In rare cases, Enam 10 Tablet may cause yellowing of skin and eyes, loss of appetite and an increase in liver enzymes. It can also cause considerable damage to the liver and even death. Therefore, if you experience any such symptoms, call your doctor immediately.

Q. Is it safe to use Enam 10 Tablet along with hydrochlorthiazide?

You have to be careful when taking Enam 10 Tablet with hydrochlorothiazide, as it can further decrease your blood pressure. You may also develop symptoms of kidney failure, such as a reduced amount of urine, swelling of your legs, ankles, and feet from retention of water. While some may experience unexplained shortness of breath, excessive drowsiness or fatigue, persistent nausea, confusion, pain or pressure in your chest and seizures (fits). These symptoms usually occur if there is substantial water or salt loss prior to starting Enam 10 Tablet. Therefore, if you face any such issues contact your doctor who will either advise you to discontinue hydrochlorothiazide or give a lower dose. The doctor may also advise you Enam 10 Tablet in very low doses when used in combination with hydrochlorothiazide.

Q. I am taking ibuprofen for arthritis, is it safe to take Enam 10 Tablet along with it?

You should avoid taking ibuprofen and Enam 10 Tablet together since there is a risk of kidney damage. Also, this combined usage may reduce the effectiveness of Enam 10 Tablet. Consult your doctor for an alternative to ibuprofen.

Q. How long does it take for Enam 10 Tablet to start working?

Enam 10 Tablet starts reducing blood pressure within few hours. However, it may take few weeks to see full benefits. You may not notice any difference after taking Enam 10 Tablet for high blood pressure, it can only be noticed when you get your blood pressure checked. So, keep taking the medicine to feel better. If you are taking Enam 10 Tablet for heart failure, it may take few weeks to months before you start feeling better.

Q. How long do I need to take Enam 10 Tablet?

You may have to take Enam 10 Tablet for long time (even for life time), until and unless any serious side effect starts bothering and deters you from taking it. However, do not stop taking it without the advice of your doctor.

Q. What can happen if I suddenly stop taking Enam 10 Tablet?

You should not stop taking Enam 10 Tablet without consulting your doctor. Doing this can suddenly increase your blood pressure which may cause a risk of heart attack or stroke. If you experience any side effects, talk to your doctor who will prescribe you another medicine.

Q. Is it safe to take Enam 10 Tablet for a long time?

Yes, Enam 10 Tablet is generally well tolerated by most people and can be taken for long term. However, its long-term use can sometimes cause your kidneys to not work properly. Your doctor will get regular blood tests done to check whether your kidneys are functioning properly or not.

Q. Can I take Enam 10 Tablet before surgery?

Inform your doctor that you are taking Enam 10 Tablet, before surgery, especially when the use of general anesthetic (to put you to sleep) is recommended.
