What is Voltarol Pain Relief Gel?

Voltarol Back and Muscle Pain Relief Gel is a pain relief medicated gel that works to provide localised relief from back and muscle pain.

Voltarol gel contains the active ingredient diclofenac diethylammonium 1.16%, which is highly effective at treating localised pain and can be applied directly to the skin.

Voltarol topical pain relief gel is non-greasy, providing a cooling and moisturising effect in addition to rapid pain relief.

How does Voltarol work?

Voltarol is a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that combines emulgel technology to provide deep tissue relief from back pain, muscle pain, swelling, inflammation and discomfort caused by sprains, strains and bruises.

The active ingredient, diclofenac diethylammonium 1.16% works quickly by helping to slow down the production of chemicals that cause pain (prostaglandins).

Voltarol gel is three times more effective than non-medicated pain relief gels.

What is Voltarol gel used for?

Voltarol gel can be used to treat and provide pain relief caused by sprains, strains and bruises.

Voltarol helps to quickly reduce muscle pain, discomfort and inflammation; it can also help to reduce recovery time so that you can get back to being active and pain-free.

How do I use Voltarol gel?

Gently massage a thin amount of Voltarol gel into the swollen or painful area (a maximum size equivalent to a 2 pence piece) with the applicator.

Apply Voltarol gel 3-4 times per day, unless advised otherwise by a doctor or pharmacist.

Allow 4 hours between each application and do not apply more than 4 times in a single 24 hour period.

Can you take Voltarol and Paracetamol together?

It is safe to take paracetamol alongside Voltarol gel. However, always read the patient information leaflet. If you are unsure, consult a doctor or pharmacist for further guidance.

Can you take Voltarol and Ibuprofen together?

Voltarol (diclofenac) gel and ibuprofen are both non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAID) drugs.

Voltarol and ibuprofen work in similar ways, therefore, you cannot take Voltarol and ibuprofen together at the same time.

If you are unsure or would like further guidance, please contact your doctor or a pharmacist.

Who should not use Voltarol?

Do not use if:

  • You are allergic to diclofenac or any other ingredient
  • The affected area has a rash, eczema, cuts, or open wounds
  • If you are pregnant or breastfeeding

Talk to your doctor before use if:

  • You have a history of asthma
