PRODUCT INTRODUCTION
Olan 5 Tablet is used in the treatment of schizophrenia (a mental disorder that can result in hallucinations or delusions and also adversely affects a person’s ability to think and behave) and mania.
Olan 5 Tablet may be taken with or without food. However, it is advised to take it at the same time each day as this helps to maintain a consistent level of medicine in the body. Take this medicine in the dose and duration as advised by your doctor and if you have missed a dose, take it as soon as you remember. This medication mustn’t be stopped suddenly without talking to your doctor as it may worsen your symptoms.
However, this medicine may increase your weight, blood sugar, and cholesterol levels but, modifying your lifestyle by having a healthy diet and exercising regularly can reduce this side effect. You should be cautious as in rare cases it may cause serious side effects like very high blood sugar levels or seizures.

WHAT IF YOU FORGET TO TAKE OLAN TABLET?
If you miss a dose of Olan 5 Tablet, take it as soon as possible. However, if it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed dose and go back to your regular schedule. Do not double the dose.

Olan 5 Tablet also helps with bipolar disorder (manic depressive disorder). It is a disease that causes episodes of depression, mania, and other abnormal moods.

Olan 5 Tablet may start showing initial improvement within 1-2 week of starting. However, for full benefits it may take about 4-6 weeks. You should continue taking it and consult your doctor in case you feel that Olan 5 Tablet is not helping you.
Q. What is the most important information that I should know about Olan 5 Tablet?
Olan 5 Tablet can cause serious side effects which include increased risk of death in elderly people who are confused, have memory loss and have lost touch with reality (dementia-related psychosis). It is important to know that it may increase blood sugar levels in diabetics and also in patients who never had diabetes. Furthermore, it may cause weight gain and high fat levels in the blood which is more common in teenagers.
Q. Can Olan 5 Tablet be taken during pregnancy?
Olan 5 Tablet should be avoided during pregnancy and should only be given if benefits outweigh the risk. Using Olan 5 Tablet during last 3 months of pregnancy may cause unwanted symptoms in the unborn baby. These symptoms include shaking, muscle stiffness and/or weakness, sleepiness, agitation, breathing problems, and difficulty in feeding.
Q. Can I stop taking Olan 5 Tablet if I am better?
You should not stop taking Olan 5 Tablet without consulting your doctor. This is because sudden discontinuation of the medicine may cause unpleasant side effects which include sweating, unable to sleep, tremor, anxiety or nausea, and vomiting. To avoid such effects, your doctor will reduce the dose gradually before stopping the treatment.
Q. Does smoking or alcohol interfere with working of Olan 5 Tablet?
Yes, smoking interferes with working of Olan 5 Tablet causing an increase in its metabolism. One should avoid alcohol while taking Olan 5 Tablet since it may cause more drowsiness. However, if you are a smoker then your doctor may increase your dose depending on your response to treatment.
