What is Ibuprofen?

How does Ibuprofen work?

Ibuprofen works by providing pain relief at the site of the pain rather than taking effect on the nervous system like other pain relief medications. Ibuprofen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory medication which works to reduce the activity of specific enzymes (cyclo-oxygenase enzymes) responsible for producing chemical compounds called prostaglandins in the body. Prostaglandins are responsible for causing pain and inflammation. Ibuprofen works by reducing or preventing this chain reaction, which decreases the production of prostaglandins at the site of discomfort which in turn helps to decrease localised inflammation and pain.
